A national campaign of theater activism against gun violence
MRT is partnering with Middlesex Community College (MCC) for a one-time reading of Natural Shocks, a new one-woman play by MRT favorite Lauren Gunderson (Silent Sky, I and You). The Lowell reading is part of a nationwide event on April 20, the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings. Based on Hamlet's "To be or not to be,” the play begins when we meet a woman waiting out an imminent tornado in her basement. Written in the wake of the Parkland shootings, it is part confessional, part stand up, and part reckoning. Natural Shocks is directed by Veronika Duerr (Going to See the Kid, 45 Plays for 45 Presidents, Home of the Brave), and will be performed by Karen Oster, Chair of Performing Arts, Middlesex Community College.
