PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Merrimack Repertory Theatre, a LORT D regional theatre located in Lowell, MA, is seeking two Stage Management Production Assistants for the 2017-2018 season. These two positions will work with the AEA Production Stage Manager throughout a rigorous seven-show season consisting primarily  of new plays.
Primary Duties:

1. Assist the PSM with all stage management duties necessary to prep, rehearse, tech,  and successfully run all seven productions throughout the season.

2. The two PA positions will split production responsibilities throughout the season, and each will be expected to perform stage management duties in the rehearsal room, including setup/breakdown, creation of show paperwork, managing line notes, and assisting with the overall flow and efficiency of the room.

3. Create, maintain, and distribute necessary paperwork for rehearsals and performance.

4. Attend meetings throughout the season, including: production meetings, staff meetings, company meetings, and any other staff-related events.

5. Track script changes, be on book for tech and preview performances, and assist with the development of several regional and world premieres.

6. Prior to tech, the PA will assist props with load-in, organize the backstage area, and help to clean and prep all actor areas.

7. Serve as the backstage liaison for the PSM. Will serve as run crew, and must be willing and prepared to be choreographed into scenic transitions as needed based on the specific needs of each production.

Whenever possible, the PA’s may assist the Company Management department in duties including but not limited to:

1. Schedule travel, meeting visiting artists at airports and train stations upon arrival, and introducing artists to their housing units on site.

2. Assist in the maintenance of MRT’s artist housing facilities, which may include cleaning, organizing, and rearranging guest suites.

3. Assist in the day-to-day responsibilities of MRT’s production department.

  • Track 2: September 19th, 2017 – April 30th, 2018
  • Compensation: Hourly, MA Minimum Wage

LIGHTING AND SOUND APPRENTICE

The Lighting and Sound Apprentice is responsible for assisting the Lighting and Sound Supervisor in the execution of all their duties as assigned. The position’s primary role will be to serve as the board operator for both Lights and Sound for Merrimack Repertory Theatre’s (MRT) seven-show season. In return they can expect to be taught all of the basic skills necessary to pursue a career in either the lighting or sound fields in a professional theatre environment.

Job Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • The ability to lift 45 lbs. comfortably.
  • Comfort with heights.
  • Basic competence with theatrical lighting and sound equipment and procedures equivalent to that earned in a four-year undergraduate program.

Primary duties:

  • Assist the Lighting and Sound Supervisor (L&SS) in all aspects of show preparation and load-in as assigned.
  • Assist with the upkeep of all MRT lighting and sound equipment as directed by L&SS.
  • Be prepared to handle basic show maintenance and operation.
  • Assist with the maintenance all MRT house, external and exit lights. Assist other production staff with general office lighting.
  • Function as both Light and Sound Board Operator for the run of all 7 shows.
  • Be present at all technical rehearsals and technical rehearsal production meetings.
  • Help keep in working order MRT’s hearing impaired assisted listening system and Clear-com communication system.

Secondary duties include but are not limited to:

  • As a Merrimack Repertory Theatre company member, help maintain facilities and general professional appearance.
  • And all other duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor or L&SS.

WARDROBE APPRENTICE

Merrimack Repertory Theatre, a LORT D regional theatre located in Lowell, MA, is seeking a Wardrobe Apprentice for the 2017-2018 season. This position will work with the Costume shop Manager and AEA Production Stage Manager throughout a rigorous seven-show season consisting primarily of new plays.
Primary Duties:

1. Assisting with the Costume Shop Manager with maintenance, upkeep and repair of costumes, wigs, related apparel, and make-up during all rehearsals and  performances of MRT productions. Includes sewing, laundry, dry cleaning delivery and pick-up, and other related duties.

2. Responsible for weekly cleaning and stocking MRT dressing rooms.

3. Assist in the creation of all necessary paperwork for running wardrobe during rehearsal and performances.

4. Assist in fittings, load-ins and costume strike for each show.

5. Serve as dresser and run crew, and must be willing and prepared to be choreographed into scenic transitions as needed based on the specific needs of each production.

6. Attend meetings throughout the season, including: production meetings, staff meetings, company meetings, and any other staff-related events.
Whenever possible, the Wardrobe Apprentice may assist the Shop Manager in the Costume Shop with duties including but not limited to:

1. Assist in building, shopping, and returns of costumes for shows produced by MRT.

2. Assist with the upkeep and maintenance of all costume stock, supplies, equipment, and facilities associated with the Costume Shop.

Administrative Interns

Administrative interns will gain exposure to all areas of arts administration during their time at Merrimack Repertory Theatre. Interns will rotate through marketing, development, finance, and executive departments, working alongside senior and junior staff members.

Tasks may include: helping with preparation and execution of special events; helping with advertising and media planning strategy; researching and writing PlayGuides for the upcoming season; researching and adapting to social media and web “best practices”; archiving and digitization of historical records; strategy and execution of fundraising campaigns; manning tables at fair events to promote MRT; as well as general office tasks such as filing, sorting, organization and assisting the administrative staff with additional projects as they arise.

Administrative internships are offered during the summer, spring and fall semesters. Specific schedules and requirements will be determined on a case by case basis.
