MERRIMACK REPERTORY THEATRE PARTNERS WITH LOWELL HUMANE SOCIETY

Lowell, MA – Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) is partnering with the Lowell Humane Society (LHS) on several events this month to draw attention to the important role that pets play in people’s lives. The partnership was inspired by their current play, “The Best Brothers,” a comedy about two very different brothers handling their mother’s death and her relationship with their “other brother,” an Italian Greyhound named Enzo. More information about the partnership can be found at http://www.mrt.org/pet-friendly-partnerships.

Representatives from the Lowell Humane Society (both two-legged and four-legged) will lead Post-Show Discussions with audience members following performances on January 14 and 28. Representatives from Therapy Dogs International will  lead the discussion on January 21. The conversations are also open to the general public and are free of charge. They will begin at approximately 9:00 and last for 20-30 minutes.

The partnership also includes a Pet Adoption Drive on Sunday, January 25 from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm in the Lowell Memorial Auditorium’s Room 3V (adjacent to MRT). Animals from the LHS needing a “forever home” will be available for adoption on site.

The theatre is also collecting supplies for the LHS during the play, which runs through February 1. MRT welcomes donations of sturdy dog toys, paper towels, bleach, and postage stamps  in the theatre lobby at every performance of “The Best Brothers”, or during Box Office hours (Tuesday – Saturday 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm; Sunday Jan. 11, 18, 25 12:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Sunday Feb. 1 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm). These items were identified by the Humane Society as their most needed supplies.
