Ways to Give

However you choose to give, we are thankful for your support!

PLEASE NOTE Special 2020 opportunites for tax deductions due to the CARES Act.

CARES Act provisions for donors who don’t itemize: The CARES Act allows for up to $300 in charitable contributions ($600 for joint filers) to qualify as an above-the-line deduction, meaning you don’t have to itemize deductions in order to claim the $300 as a deduction. Qualifying donations must be made in cash or cash equivalents (as opposed to stock, for example) and cannot be directed to supporting organizations or DAFs.

CARES Act increase in charitable giving limit: Under the CARES Act, for 2020 only, donors who itemize their deductions can now give more to charity before reaching their adjusted gross income (AGI) limitation. Formerly set at 60%, the limitation for cash contributions to certain public charities has now been raised to 100% of an individual’s AGI for 2020. Any giving beyond this 100% limitation may be carried over and used in the next five years.

GIVE FROM YOUR IRA: Give from your IRA: Using the Qualified Charitable Distribution provision, you can make a gift to MRT supporting the theatre you love and avoiding income tax on that distribution.

Gift of Securities

Donate your stocks, bonds or other securities and earn tax benefits at the same time. If you have held your securities for more than one year, you may find that your gift will provide a twofold tax benefit, creating an income-tax deduction as well as helping avoid the capital-gains tax that would have been due on their sale. MRT receives gifts of securities through a gift account at UBS.
