Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) is pleased to share the news that The Kleban Foundation’s 28th Annual Kleban Prize for Musical Theatre for the most promising musical theatre librettist has been awarded to Christian Duhamel for his work on My 80-Year-Old Boyfriend, a musical that received its world premiere at MRT in Lowell in April 2017.

PRESS RELEASE: MRT Debuts First Cambodian-Authored Play in 15 Years With KNYUM

Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) starts off 2018 with the latest in its 39th season: the world premiere production of Vichet Chum’s KNYUM. Vichet Chum will make both his playwrighting and acting debut at MRT with his brand new, one-man play following the story of Guy, a hotel night clerk who spends the quiet hours of the night shift studying Khmer, the language of his family’s home of Cambodia, in preparation for his first visit to the country his parents fled from decades before. Guy stumbles awkwardly towards fluency to awaken to parts of his heritage, both beautiful and excruciating, which shine through in his wildly luminous dreams.

Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) announced today that their production of A Christmas Carol, the third show of their 2017-18 Season, has become the best-selling show in the theatre’s history. The previous record holder was It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, which notably also featured cast member Joel Colodner and director Megan Sandberg-Zakian.

Inspired by Charles Dickens’ own live storytelling performances—and with your favorite carols played by live onstage musicians—we’ll remind you of the true meaning of Christmas: the singular joy of fellowship and compassion.

PRESS RELEASE: MRT DEBUTS NEW COMEDY IN NEW YEAR

Lowell, MA – Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) starts off 2017 with “The Making of a Great Moment,” the world premiere comedy by ATCA/Steinberg award-winning playwright Peter Sinn Nachtrieb. The play was written specifically to showcase the comedic genius of actors Danny Scheie and Aysan Celik. They play two actors on the tour of their play about all of human history—which they bring across the country by bicycle. Colorful humor, thought-provoking insight, and heartfelt performances make it a delectably smart and funny night of theatre. MRT Artistic Director Sean Daniels directs.

Press Release: 2016 Military Night at MRT

Lowell, MA – For the third year in a row, Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) will offer half-price tickets to members of the local service community. This year’s Military Night will be at a performance of “Going to See the Kid,” the one-of-a-kind Red Sox Christmas play being premiered at MRT this Holiday season. MRT also offers a regular Military Discount of $10 off per ticket (up to four tickets per production) for all other performances of “Going to See the Kid,” as well as its entire season. These discounts apply active duty, retired, veteran, and reservist members of the military. Patrons should show military ID or other proof of service when picking up their tickets from the Box Office.
